Perhaps the gentlemen that you cite know and
exploit this. The weaker someone’s psychological
foundations, the greater the effect of the sirens’ music.
With certain bereavements, great chunks of that foundation
get smashed, leaving people vulnerable.
Whether such short term comforts inhibit an alternative grieving process (and
are therefore a negative thing), interests me. I have no answer.
